Complete Guide
2026 Nassau County Boys Lacrosse Tryout Season
Fall 2026 tryouts: Most clubs hold fall tryouts in July–August 2026. Fall ball is typically a development season — many clubs use it to evaluate new players before the competitive spring.
Spring 2026 tryouts: Clubs that didn't fill rosters in fall hold spring tryouts in November–December 2025. Some hold supplemental spots in January.
Mid-season spots: A handful of clubs accept mid-season roster additions if a player leaves. These spots go fast — contact clubs directly if you missed the main tryout window.
Tip: The best Nassau County clubs fill rosters in August for the following spring. Don't wait until November to start reaching out.
What to Expect at Nassau County Lacrosse Tryouts
Duration: Most clubs run 60–90 minute tryout sessions. Elite programs may run two rounds.
Skills tested: Ground balls (the most evaluated skill), catching under pressure, throwing both hands, dodging 1v1, shooting on goal, and understanding of basic offensive/defensive concepts.
What coaches really watch: Which players compete hard for every ground ball. Effort and attitude are consistently cited as the #1 factor by Nassau County coaches when choosing between similarly skilled players.
Fees: $50–$125 per tryout depending on club. Non-refundable. Some clubs offer wristband tryouts (pay at the door).
What to wear: Helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, cleats, mouthguard. Bring your own stick — do not use a borrowed stick at tryouts. Show your stick skills with equipment you know.

How to Prepare for Lacrosse Tryouts
Wall ball: 500+ reps per day leading up to tryouts — both hands. Nassau coaches will test your non-dominant hand. This is the biggest differentiator.
Ground balls: Get low, protect the stick, never give up on a loose ball. Practice scooping at speed.
Show your range: If you can play multiple positions, mention it. Versatility gets players selected at U10 and U12.
Be early: Arrive 20 minutes before the tryout. Introduce yourself to the coach. First impressions matter.
Don't specialize yet: At U10 and U12, the best programs want multi-sport athletes. Don't play lacrosse 12 months a year at 10 years old.
