Fastpitch softball gear is different from baseball. Bats must be USA Softball certified for Little League. Travel players use ASA/USA Softball approved bats.
Little League Softball starts at age 4–5 with T-Ball. Fastpitch competitive travel softball typically starts at 8U. Most Long Island communities have recreational spring leagues for girls ages 5–12.

Fastpitch players need a bat (USA or USSSA stamped), batting helmet with faceguard, cleats, batting gloves, and a glove. Pitchers typically use a 12-inch ball for 10U and above.
